1. Introduction

This policy explains how we handle personal information when you use the TerraADV mobile application, our website, and related services (together, the "Service"). We aim to handle personal information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

2. What we collect

Information you give us

• Email address, and name if you provide it (for example, when you create an account or contact us).
• Any content you send us directly, such as support messages or feedback.

Location information

• The app uses your device's location to provide navigation and mapping. Your location is processed on your device to power navigation and is not transmitted to or stored by us.

Information collected automatically

• Diagnostics and crash data: none at this time — TerraADV does not currently collect crash or diagnostics telemetry.
• Download/server logs: when the app downloads map regions from our hosting provider (Cloudflare R2), standard server logs may record your IP address, request time, and the file requested.

Information from Apple

• If you purchase anything, Apple processes the payment. We receive confirmation of purchase but not your full payment details.

3. How we use your information

We use personal information to:

• provide, maintain, and improve the Service;
• deliver map regions and app updates;
• send you emails you have asked for (product updates, service notices);
• respond to your enquiries and provide support;
• diagnose problems, prevent misuse, and keep the Service secure;
• comply with our legal obligations.

4. Marketing communications

We only send marketing or promotional email where you have opted in, and every such email includes an unsubscribe link, consistent with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). You can withdraw consent at any time.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the Service, and only as needed:

• Apple — app distribution and payments.
• Supabase — backend data (account and route sync).
• Cloudflare (R2) — hosting and delivery of downloadable map regions.
• Any email service provider we use to send you emails you've requested.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.

Some providers may store or process data overseas. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the APPs.

6. Storage, security, and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access. We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law, then delete or de-identify it. Account and profile data is retained for as long as your account is active; if you delete your account we aim to delete or de-identify your personal information within 30 days, subject to legal retention requirements.

7. Your rights

You may:

• ask what personal information we hold about you and request access to it;
• ask us to correct information that is inaccurate;
• ask us to delete your information, subject to legal exceptions;
• unsubscribe from marketing at any time.

8. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

9. Third-party data and links

Map and routing data comes from third parties including OpenStreetMap contributors. Your use of that data is also subject to their terms. The app may contain links to third-party sites we don't control.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll post the updated version here and change the "Last updated" date. Significant changes will be notified in-app.
